About Finlandia Foundation
- Finlandia Foundation National is the premier network of Finnish-American organizations in the United States, with 58 affiliates in 25 states and Washington, D.C. There are more than 7,000 members nationwide.
- It was founded by nine Finnish-Americans led by Yrjö and Leonora Paloheimo in Pasadena, California in 1953, and is still based at the site of the founders’ home.
- Finlandia Foundation’s mission is to support and encourage an awareness of and connection to Finnish culture and heritage, as well as to contemporary Finland.
- A non-profit, philanthropic organization, Finlandia Foundation annually awards scholarships and grants for cultural, historical and creative projects.
- Its Performer of the Year and Lecturer of the Year touring programs bring interesting and entertaining presentations to Finlandia Foundation chapters across the country.
- Each year, Finlandia Foundation hosts Soiva International Music Camp at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, for students from the U.S. and Finland, and offers funds to young people attending Salolampi Language Village in Bemidji, Minnesota.
- Throughout 2017, In recognition of the important, year-long recognition of Finland’s century of independence, Finlandia Foundation supported the celebration of Finland 100 through its own Signature Events, as well as through a wide variety of activities and programs at its chapters.
- Finlandia Foundation National is a (501)(c)(3) organization, and all donations are tax-deductible.
- The Paloheimo Foundation matches gifts to Finlandia Foundation dollar-for-dollar (up to $100,000 annually).
- Finlandia Foundation National operates under the direction of a volunteer board of trustees that meets twice a year to conduct business and administer its programs, which are coordinated by members of the board.
