On June 3, 2022 FFN hosted a reception in honor of Maestro Osmo Vänskä, music director of the Minnesota Orchestra, following that evening’s concert at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis.

Steve’S Cocktail Show

Steve Bousquet shows off the vibrant blue of the “Sisu Sling” during “Steve’S Cocktail Show” on Facebook Live featuring Finnish-themed adult beverages.

Steve and Katrina Bousquet of Connecticut host “Steve’S Cocktail Show” on Facebook Live, which on September 12 featured several Finnish-themed drinks. To view the hour-long program click: Steve’S Cocktail Show.

Steve is president of the Finnish-American Heritage Society in Canterbury, Connecticut; his wife Katrina is of Finnish descent.

Following are the ingredients for the adult beverages featured on the show; view the show for the step-by-step mixology. 

Finlandia Red Drop was served at the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra concert during the 2017 FinnFest USA in Minneapolis
FINLANDIA RED DROP

2 oz vodka, 3 oz sweetened cranberry Juice, .5 oz lime juice (fresh squeezed). Shaken and garnished with a lime wedge.

Long Drink – Easy

2 oz gin, 2 oz grapefruit juice or similar, 5 oz Fresca. Build in a glass filled with ice. Garnish with a grapefruit wedge.

Long Drink – Olympia-lonkero

2 oz gin, 2 oz grapefruit juice fresh squeezed, .5 oz lime juice, .5 oz lemon juice, ¾ oz simple syrup, 3 oz seltzer water. Shaken. 

Sisu Sling

1.5 oz vodka, .5 oz Blue Curacao, .5 oz Peach Schnapps, .5 oz Triple Sec, .5 oz lime, 3 oz seltzer or club soda water. Shaken and garnished with a cherry.

Jean Sibelius wrote out the recipe for his Black Punch in 1943
Sibelius’ Black Punch – Old School Version

.5 oz soda water, 1 sugar cube, 1 teaspoon blackberry jam; add Bergamot bitters or oil in the sugar cube and melt with club soda, 1.5 oz vodka, 5 oz of red wine.

Sibelius’ Black Punch – Modern version

1.5 oz vodka, 6 oz red wine, 1 oz strong tea, 1 teaspoon Bergamot blackberry jam, .5 oz lime juice.

Salmiakki Vodka

A bottle of vodka, a handful of salmiakki, 1 cup sugar. Shake the bottle once a day for a week. Strain out the salmiakki and chill vodka in the freezer. Serve as chilled shots. Best after sauna.

THE AALTO

This cocktail is named for the eminent Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto. At the Ateljee Bar in the Sokos Hotel in Helsinki, you have the option of having it served in the classic Aalto vase (shown).

Mix in shaker with ice:
2 oz raspberry infused vodka, 1/2 oz Cointreau, 4 oz cranberry juice, splash of lemon juice

Pour over ice cubes, top with 2 oz sparkling water and lemon slice
